Michamvi Blue Lagoon, Starfish Spotting & The Rock Experience

Hotel Pickup & Drop-off

At low tide, a stretch of water off the Michamvi peninsula turns an almost unreal shade of blue-green — locals call it the Blue Lagoon, and it’s one of the best-kept secrets on Zanzibar’s southeast coast.

The same tidal flats bring out large numbers of starfish, and your guide will show you where to find them without disturbing the ecosystem — a favorite moment for families and first-time visitors. From there, the tour continues to The Rock — one of the most photographed restaurants on Earth, built on a coral outcrop that appears to float on the ocean at high tide. You can walk to it across the sand at low tide, with time to stop for a drink or meal at your own expense.

Bring swimwear, a towel, and reef-safe sunscreen — timing is coordinated with the tides for the best lagoon and starfish conditions.

Tour Plan

Blue Lagoon – Natural Swimming Paradise

Your journey begins with a visit to the serene Blue Lagoon — a hidden natural pool surrounded by coral formations and calm, turquoise waters. Enjoy swimming or snorkeling in this peaceful spot, perfect for all ages and skill levels. It's a natural wonder where you can feel truly connected to the ocean.

Starfish-Spotting

From the lagoon, head over to a shallow coastal area known for its colorful and gentle starfish. Wander through crystal-clear water as you admire these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat. It's a photographer’s dream and a magical moment for nature lovers.

Sandbank Visit

If the tide allows, the tour continues with a short ride or walk to a stunning sandbank. Surrounded by the Indian Ocean, this strip of white sand appears only during low tide — offering you the chance to relax, take breathtaking photos, or simply feel like you're on your own private island.

The Rock Restaurant

End your adventure with a visit to Zanzibar’s most iconic restaurant — The Rock. Perched on a rock in the ocean, this world-famous spot is perfect for unforgettable photos. If you have a lunch reservation, you’ll be seated to enjoy a freshly prepared seafood meal with spectacular ocean views. For those without a reservation, your guide will ensure time to explore and take memorable photos before heading back.
